The prestigious journal Nature Communications has published the paper “How ornithopters can perch autonomously on a branch” (https://lnkd.in/d87ueYUP).
This is a result of the GRIFFIN Advanced Grant of the European Research Council (https://lnkd.in/gmiKa39h ) of Anibal Ollero, that has developed the first flapping and gliding bioinspired robotic birds, with fully autonomous capabilities of flying and perching.
The paper describes the flapping wing robot and the leg-claw system for the autonomous perching on a branch.
This work paves the way towards the application of flapping-wing robots for long range observation and logistic missions, also including manipulation after perching.
