Dissemination of GRIFFIN in IROS 2019

14/11/2019

This year the IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robotic Systems (IROS) has been held in Macau (China) between November 4th and 8th. The GRVC head and ERC grantee Anibal Ollero in conjuction with members of the group presented several papers produced. Among these publications a paper of GRIFFIN project were presented.

This paper is entitled «Small-Scale Compliant Dual Arm With Tail for Winged Aerial Robots» and its authors are Alejandro Suárez, Manuel Pérez García, Guillermo Heredia and Aníbal Ollero.

After the first presentations of GRIFFIN at ICUAS 2019, IROS 2019 has been the next stop to show the advances of the project. The next presentations will take place at ROBOT ‘2019 in Porto (Portugal).

Anibal Ollero Will Receive The Rei Jaume I Prize On November 25th

14/11/2019

The GRVC head Anibal Ollero won the Rei Jaume I Prize in New Technologies in June of this year. On November 25th he will collect this important spanish award in the prize-giving ceremony held in Lonja de los Mercaderes de València. This ceremony will be chaired by His Majesty the King of Spain Felipe VI and is one of the most important social events of the year in Spain.

In June the jury awarded the leadership of Anibal Ollero  in aerial robotics and his priceless capability to combine excellent research and technology innovation with the technology transfer to companies. The jury highlighted the “Invaluable ability to combine excellence in research and technological innovation with the transfer of technology to companies in the field of aerial robotics”.

The ERC grantee Anibal Ollero

Ollero currently works as head of GRVC (Robotics, Vision and Control Group) and as scientific asessor of FADA-CATEC. GRVC participates currently in nine european projects inside the H2020 framework programme and so as to several national projects as DREAM or INSPECTOR. In the last years Anibal Ollero has received another prizes as the 2017 European Radar Prize from Euronews because of the development of the AEROX prototype or the FAMA Prize from the University of Seville.

Upcoming of ROBOT 2019

11/09/2019

After its last edition in Lisbon in 2015, the Fourth Iberian Robotics Conference (ROBOT 2019) will be held at the School of Engineering of the Porto Polytechnic (Portugal). This event shows in every edition all the new advances in aerial robotics research produced inside the Iberian Peninsula. Despite this fact contributions from another countries are accepted.

The previous editions of ROBOT were held in Madrid (2013), Lisbon (2015) and Seville (2017). GRIFFIN will be disseminated in the following accepted papers:

  • A. Gómez Eguíluz, J. L. Paneque, J.R. Martínez-de Dios and A. Ollero: “Online detection and tracking of pipes during UAV flight in industrial environments”.
  • J. P. Rodríguez-Gómez and A. Gómez Eguíluz and J. R. Martínez-de Dios and A. Ollero: “ROSS-LAN: RObotic Sensing Simulation scheme for bioinspired robotic bird Landing”.
  • A. E. Gómez Tamm, P. Ramón Soria, B. C. Arrúe.«TPC muscle tensors: Theoretical analysis and potential applications in aerial robotic systems.» Fourth Iberian Robotics Forum (ROBOT 2019). Porto, Portugal. November 2019.

Also, ROBOT 2019 will count on a special session organised by GRVC – USE professors Guillermo Heredia and Begoña Arrúe entitled “Aerial Robotics for Inspection and Maintenance”, which will address all the applications of aerial robotics technologies and how they could improve the inspection and maintenance tasks. This include the design and control of aerial manipulators, robot localisation and mapping, planning for exploration and multi-robot systems.

Upcoming Of ICUAS 2020

09/09/2019

In 2020 the International Conference on Unmanned Aircraft Vehicles will be held for first time outside of the US, in practice in Athens (Greece). In this conference GRIFFIN issues will be adresses as in 2019 ICUAS in Atlanta.

These conferences approaches the issues of integration of manned-unmanned aviation into the national airspace, legal, ethical and privacy issues, regulations, benefits of unmanned aviation to society, UAS/RPAS design for safety, reliability and resilience, and technology standards.  Every year many groups including funding agencies, academia and industry assist to ICUAS to discuss issues related to unmanned aircraft systems and their applications.
