Plenary talk at ISAR ’19

This year in the month of May the 3rd International Symposium on Aerial Robotics (ISAR) was held in Toronto, Canada. The head of GRVC Anibal Ollero is part of the organization committee and he delivered a plenary talk entitled “Aerial Robots with Manipulation Capabilities in Flight and Perched”, with the advances that in these moments are being developed inside the GRIFFIN project’s objectives.

Last year this event was held in Philadelphia, USA and count on the presence of group member Anibal Ollero and Arturo Torres, whom disseminated the AEROARMS, Multidrone and EUROC advances in their corresponding presentations “New Systems for Industrial Contact Inspection Pipes and Bridges by using Aerial Robotics Manipulators” and “UAL: an abstraction layer for unmanned vehicles”. The ISAR has become during this past three years in an important date for the UAVs experts in USA and Europe, thanks to the organisational skills of the New York University researcher Giuseppe Loianno. part of the IEEE TC on Aerial Robotics and Unmanned Vehicles.

Presentation of the GRIFFIN project at European Robotics Forum 2019

Next Thursday March 21st the ERC Advanced Grant GRIFFIN project will be presented in a workshop of European Robotics Forum 2019. This workshop, entitled «Aerial Robotics Technologies & Applications with the new European UAS regulation», is organized by the ERC grantee Anibal Ollero in conjuction with Mauricio Calva from Chevron and its title says, they will adress the issue of the fate of UAS inside the future U-Space.

This year the European Robotics Forum (ERF) will be held in Bucharest, Romania. ERF is one of the most important meetings of every year in Europe that brings euRobotics, a Brussels based international non-profit association created for all kind of stakeholder in European robotics. EuRobotics also organizes during the year another robotics meetings like European Robotics Week or European Robotics Week, held this year in Seville.

GRIFFIN project on spanish media

On the last Friday November 16th the GRIFFIN project’s was held at the Engineering School of the University of Seville. Meanwhile, the spanish newspaper El País published an interview with the head of the GRVC and CATEC’s scientific advisor Aníbal Ollero talking about the AEROARMS project.

In this interview the GRIFFIN project was mentioned. Ollero explained here what constitutes an ERC Advanced Grant, the goals of the project such as analyze and imitate the flight of a bird and how these goals would be reached.

Kick-off meeting summary and presentations

This last Friday November 16th the kick-off meeting of the GRIFFIN project was held at the Engineering School of the University of Seville and it was a complete success. The conference room was full of university professors and students listening closely to the presentations explaining the challenges and prototypes that will be developed at the project. The assistants also visited the GRVC installations, where they could touch and see the aerial systems with flapping wings.

Project kick-off meeting agenda

At Friday November 16th the ERC Advanced Grant project GRIFFIN will have  a kick-off meeting at the «Salón de Grados» of the  «Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería» (Caminos de los Descubrimientos s/n) in Seville. Researchers from the universities of Seville, Málaga and Castilla-La Mancha as well members from FADA-CATEC will present different methods and technologies related to aerial systems with flapping and foldable wings and aerial manipulators.
